Sisters Shared Senior Photos – UT Graduation Session

University of Texas at Austin College Photo Session | Austin Senior Photographer

When planning a University of Texas college photo session, I tell my Graduating Seniors to pick their top three-four anchor locations on campus. Then we’ll plan the flow of their session around these spots.

Outlining the route:

For these twin sisters, they picked the:
  • Gearing Courtyard with views of the Tower (The Tower has scaffolding about halfway up from this angle)
  • Life Sciences Library inside the Tower (which ended up being locked (!) and inaccessible due to construction)
  • Calhoun Outdoor Hallways/Six Pack buildings
  • University of Texas sign on the South mall (which we scrapped and replaced with the Littlefield Fountain for some champagne popping)

as their must-haves. Thanks to these seniors for being flexible as we changed some of our spots on the spot.

Then it was Horns Up as we walked around campus.

I made sure to get a mix of solo photos of each graduate as well as photos of them together. And to have a towel ready for them after their fountain celebratory dip.

If you’d also like to have a Graduating Senior photo session on the University of Texas at Austin campus, here are my recommendations below:

  • TIMING: Right before Spring Graduation, Campus gets pretty full of photo shoots. So try and plan earlier in the semester or choose off-times for your photos (or be okay with waiting for your turn in front of popular spots)
  • PREP: Iron your regalia and bring it on a hanger.
  • WHAT TO WEAR: You can pose in your full cap and gown, part of your regalia, regular dressy clothes or any combination of the above.
  • LOCATIONS: If you have a particular spot on campus that means a lot to you (Ex. where you took the majority of your classes), let me know so we can include it in our route.
  • ROUTE: I’ll send you a list of popular spots before your date so you can give me your top four choices to visit in your hour-long session.
  • MINI ADD-ON: If your family will be in town, we can add-on a mini-family photo session.
  • CELEBRATE: If you want to end your session in the Littlefield Fountain – bring some champagne to “pop” as well as a towel for drying off and flip flops to wear for afterwards. You can also bring some biodegradable paper confetti cannons to pop.
  • WALKING SHOES: Since we’ll likely be doing a lot of walking around campus, wear or bring comfortable shoes to change into between spots (I’ll have my blue rolling cart to help carry everything).
  • GROUP SESSIONS: If you’re interested in a group session with some friends, contact me for group pricing.
  • TOWER CONSTRUCTION: Keep an eye on the latest UT Tower construction updates.

For this couple, they picked the:
    • Green Door of the Architecture Library
    • Architecture Courtyard
    • Littlefield Fountain
    • South Mall UT Flowers

as their must-haves. We had talked about also going inside the Tower but since the weather was so nice outside, they switched last minute for more South Mall options.

And while we did have to wait in some short lines at popular locations (it was end of semester after all) – since we met on a weeknight, it wasn’t as bad as the weekend crowds can be.

I also made sure to get a mix of solo photos of each graduate as well as photos of them together.

Planning your UT Photo Session | Austin Senior Photographer

When planning a University of Texas college graduation photo session, I tell my senior to pick their four anchor locations on campus. Then we’ll plan the flow of their session around these spots.

      Outlining the route:

For this graduating Biology major, she picked the:
      • MLK Statue on the East Mall
      • Turtle Pond
      • UT Tower

      as her must-haves.

I suggested we fit in the Biology building exterior as well since it’s so close to the Turtle Pond. And since the Tower is now partially covered in scaffolding, we also made our way down to the Littlefield Fountain to get Tower views (but with less construction mess).

We also took advantage of the South Mall T-E-X-A-S letters left on campus from the Longhorn Lights Holiday display for some cap throwing as well.

If you’d also like to have a Graduating Senior photo session on the University of Texas at Austin campus, here are my recommendations below:

      • TIMING: Right before Spring Graduation, Campus gets pretty full of photo shoots. So try and plan earlier in the semester or choose off-times for your photos (or be okay with waiting for your turn in front of popular spots) – We met over winter break for her photo session and only saw three other seniors getting photographed at the same time.

I love it when I get to document one family over the years through different milestones. I first met this current College Senior back in 2019 when I did her family photos.

Two years later we met up again for her High School Senior Photo Session.

        1. What prompted you to have this Senior photo session? I wanted to do this photo session so I can have nice, professional photos to both share and remember my time at UT.
        2. What do you plan to do with your digital photos? I plan to use these photos for my professional profiles like LinkedIn and my portfolio but I’m going to share with family and friends as well!
        3. How did you choose your location for your session? I chose the location based on how iconic they are to the UT campus and how they personally relate to my time at UT.
        4. What advice would you give to others planning a similar Senior photo session? My advice is to just be yourself!! A senior photo session is for you and to remember your journey, not anyone else’s, so make it special!
        5. Anything else you’d like to add about working with Stephanie Friedman Photography? Stephanie is awesome! She is so bubbly and friendly while being efficient and professional. This is my second time working with Stephanie (for Senior photos), and I would definitely do it again!

Did you know that the University of Texas Tower building will undergo construction starting Fall of 2024 and go until Summer of 2027?

Not wanting construction fencing in her photos, this Class of 2025 Senior’s mom made sure to get her family and senior graduation pictures done early.

UT college senior in gown and regalia in front of flowers spelling out letters U and T

And we weren’t alone in this plan, lots of other graduation photos were happening on campus the same night.

If you’d also like to plan ahead, the University Co-Op has cap & gowns in stock (but the 2025 tassel charm was not available yet, so we left it out of our photos). If you’re planning on photos after January 2025, you should be able to get the correct year on your tassel charm.

Tips for a College Senior Photo Session at the University of Texas at Austin:

          • Around Graduation, Campus gets full of photo sessions, so try and plan early or choose off-times for your photos.
          • You may need to wait your turn in front of popular spots.
          • Iron your regalia.
          • You can pose in your full cap and gown, part of your regalia, regular clothes or any combination of the above.
          • If you have a particular spot on campus that means a lot to you (ex. where you took the majority of your classes), let your photographer know – I also have a BLOG POST with my location recommendations
          • If your family will be in town, we can add-on a mini-family photo session
          • Bring two bottles of (cheap) champagne if you want to pop the cork (and a towel for after you spray it in the air)
          • Get ready to “Hook ‘Em Horns!”
