Color Guard on South Congress – Senior + Family Session

Color Guard on South Congress – Senior + Family Session

Class of 2026 High School Photo Session | Austin Senior Photographer

This High School Senior chose South Congress for his photo location to compliment the Color Guard props he brought. We made sure to hit some of the most iconic spots along the street.

We also got some photos with his family who came along.

If you’re also interested in having your High School Senior Photo Session along South Congress Avenue, check out my tips below.

Tips for High School Senior Photo Sessions on South Congress:

  • Pick an evening session early in the week (Monday-Wednesday) for smaller crowds and easier parking
  • If you want the “walking across South Congress with the Capitol and Downtown buildings in the background” image, pick a sunrise session so there won’t be traffic
  • An easy meeting spot is the “I love you so much” mural at Jo’s Coffee
  • Plan to pay for parking at a nearby garage or in the neighborhood
  • There aren’t public restrooms, so plan to change outfits in your car (or bring things you can layer on and off)
  • Consider ending your photo session with ice cream at Amy’s or Jeni’s or Gelato at Gelato Paradiso nearby
  • There are lots of great murals we can use as backdrops as we walk along the streets

Client Feedback and Advice

  1. What prompted you to have this photo session? We wanted to get senior photos taken before our son’s schedule got crazy.
  2. What do you plan to do with your digital photos? We plan to use the photos of our son in graduation announcements and an ad in the yearbook. We will use the family photos in our Christmas card.
  3. How did you choose your location for your session? My son is in color guard, and they used a photo of the murals on their flags for their winter guard show.
  4. What advice would you give to others planning a similar Senior + Family photo session?
I would tell people to just follow Stephanie’s suggestions. She’s very good at what she does.
  5. Anything else you’d like to add about working with Stephanie Friedman Photography? Stephanie is very thoughtful and listens to what you would like to do. She’s flexible and was willing to take pictures at murals we didn’t discuss prior to the photo shoot.

C-Section at St. David’s Hospital – Newborn Photo Session

C-Section at St. David’s Hospital – Newborn Photo Session

Welcome to the World, Baby C | Austin Family Photographer

Getting to document any baby being born is always an honor.

For this mom’s sixth cesarean, I was there to capture the surgery and birth. I arrived at St. David’s Hospital North that morning. We had plenty of time to chat in her pre-op room since the surgery was running behind.

Once she was done with anesthesia, I was there to document all the steps of the birth in the operating room.

If you live in Austin and are also interested in having your c-section documented, check out my tips below.

Tips for C-Section Birth Photo Sessions at the hospital:

  • Most important – make sure you have permission from your doctor and any addtional permission needed from the hospital and staff
  • Communicate to your photographer what is important to you from this session (and if you’d prefer anything *not* to be photographed as well)
  • If you’d like to add on a “Fresh 48” hospital or “At-home” Family session after the birth, let your photographer know
  • Expect a variety of images from wide angles to show the operating theater to close-ups on the details: surgical equipment, baby toes, etc.
  • Photographers: expect to be dressed in PPE (personal protective equipment) while in the operating room
  • Photographers: be respectful and ask the nursing staff the best places to stand during the procedure (avoid the sterile equipment) and be ready to get out of the way as needed

Top Three Things to Make with your Digital Photos

Top Three Things to Make with your Digital Photos

Preserve your Memories | Austin Portrait Photography

With my photo sessions, you receive all your digital files to use as you like. Once you’ve shared your images through email and social media to your friends and family, don’t stop there!

Next, turn your photos into tangible treasures.

Here are my Top Three Recommendations on what to create with your digital image files.

Send a Card

sample holiday card with family photos

Use your favorite photos to create your yearly holiday card or create a graduation announcement to mail out.

Some sites will address and mail the cards out for you directly for an added cost.

Some of the sites I like best for card design are:

Create Prints and Print Products

Print and frame your favorite photos to hang around your house.

You can also create photo albums, calendars and more directly from your Gallery’s online shop.

Almost all of my packages include a print credit – so make sure you use it.

While you can get prints made at a wide variety of online sites, I highly recommend you order directly from your image gallery.

Those custom prints come from Bay Photo Lab (which have a higher quality, last longer and have truer colors).

When you Shop your Online Gallery for Prints, prices start at $5 for 4×6 prints.

Customize a Gift

sample photo mug as a gift idea

Just about any item can be customized with a photo. The sky is the limit.

From mugs to tote bags to pillows, you can personalize a gift for the special someone in your life. You can even make your own reel viewer for that nostalgic feel.

Make sure to get the most out of your photo gallery.

Have fun creating!

Summertime at home – Family Photo Session

Summertime at home – Family Photo Session

Summer night at home in Allandale | Austin Family Photographer

For this Family, we had to split up their Senior + Family Photo Session due to scheduling issues.

Their oldest child had his Senior Photos taken first in April in Downtown Austin.

austin high school senior class of 2025 photo session in seaholm district by stephanie friedman photography

Then we met up again in June to get a mini-session of the entire family relaxing at home. Their sweet family dog made it in a few photos as well.

If you live in Austin and are also interested in having a family photo session at home, check out my tips below.

Tips for Family Photo Sessions at home:

  • I’ll schedule a “location scouting” tour of your house about a week before your session. I’ll walk around your house and yard for about 15 minutes with you. Then I can plan out the best backgrounds for your photos.
  • Since I like to focus most on photos taken outside, before I arrive, clean up and tidy around your front door and in your backyard. The idea is to cut down on visual clutter.
  • Mow the lawn and consider buying some new colorful flowers to put by your door
  • Move your cars out of the driveway so we can use that space
  • Pick outfits that match the style and vibe of your house’s personality
  • We’ll do a mix of posed and candid shots around your yard
  • Family pets are always welcome 🙂

Front yard & Neighborhood Trails – Family Photo Session

Front yard & Neighborhood Trails – Family Photo Session

At-home + Walking some Southwest Park Trails | Austin Family Photographer

I last photographed this family in the Fall. This year, we were supposed to have an Extended Family photo session at the University of Texas based around graduation, but I got sick.

They were so sweet and flexible. So, we pivoted to a family session a few weeks later in the Spring. We talked about location options, but the mom decided she wanted to use the same locations as last year – their front yard and the nearby park trails in Southwest Austin.

Her garden was in bloom and the grass was so green from the recent rains. We also got to recreate some similar front yard poses to see how the kids have grown.

Last year:

This year:

Tips for Family Photo Sessions in the park:

  • Pack water if it’s a hot day, and bring snacks if you think your kids will get hungry during the family photo session.
  • Wear comfortable shoes since we’ll be walking along the trails.
  • Bring a blanket whose colors coordinate with your outfits in case we want to take any seated photos.
  • You can also bring a prop for an activity you enjoy doing (guitar, kite, ball, etc.)

Client Feedback

“A good friend just came to visit us recently and looked around at our walls covered with family pictures that Stephanie has taken over the years and said this feels like such an incredible home because of all of these pictures.

It warmed my heart when she gave me this compliment, and I marveled at how much my children have grown throughout the years.

I love having these pictures to keep track of our family and to remind us of how precious time is together.”

This high school valedictorian requested a “laid-back, super simple, no frills” session. So we met up at a nearby park for a Senior + Family photo session.

  3. Framed photo from kindergarten
  4. Yo-yo (to show off his skills)
  5. Magic the Gathering cards and dice
  6. Washington U pennant and shirt, etc.

If you’re also interested in having your High School Senior Photo Session at Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park, check out my tips below.

Tips for High School Senior Photo Sessions at Northwest Park:

  • I like to meet on the Shoal Creek side of the park near the bridge
  • In Spring, the field is usually filled with wildflowers
  • We can explore around the creek and by the pond for different nature backgrounds
  • The park has restrooms, but it may be closest to change outfits in your car
  • Bring props, as well as your cap & gown to capture this milestone time

Client Feedback and Advice

  1. What prompted you to have this photo session? Senior photos for invitations and to give the boy the memories of his final high school year.
  2. What do you plan to do with your digital photos? We used the photos for banners, fans, Big heads, buttons, on Grad party invites, and to look at when he is away at college.
  3. How did you choose your location for your session? I spent some time talking with Stephanie about places that would give the nature look he wanted for his photos. Which was the only request he made before doing the shoot.
  4. What advice would you give to others planning a similar Senior photo session?
    1. Try your clothes on a couple times leading up to the day of the shoot to make sure they have the right fit, length, don’t gap in places they shouldn’t.
2.Take the props, the prop photos are always the ones that get the most compliments.
  5. Anything else you’d like to add about working with Stephanie Friedman Photography?Stephanie was fantastic to work with, I reached out on a Sunday and had a response with times and dates by Monday. She is incredibly responsive and prepared, she had all the emergency items needed for a disastrous mom moment. She captured memoments in her photos that shine through showing authentic personality. I love the photos of my Senior.
