Where to get crafty with your kids this holiday season in Austin, Texas

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by hand making gifts and decorations for your friends, family and home?

1. Gingerbread Houses: This classic holiday activity of decorating gingerbread houses can happen at the Thinkery or Laguna Gloria this month.

2. Santa Cookie Plate: Personalize and decorate a cookie plate for Santa at Cordovan Art School

3. Handmade Gifts: Sign up for one of the Austin Tinkering School crafting classes for kids, teens and Adults. You can make presents like handmade soap, customized candles, shibori-dyed tea towels, hand-stamped gift wrap, wooden salt shakers and a succulent plant box.

Print out or screenshot my checklist of favorites above and have a great time this month and next.

There’s light displays, holiday performances, and hands-on activites to enjoy. Some of the activities are free, while some have an entrance fee. Some are in Austin, while others are a short drive out of town. Most appeal to a wide range of ages. All of them should put you in a festive holiday mood (ugly Christmas sweaters are always optional to wear).

What a fun and easy-going family! (or maybe after a string of sessions with 2-year-olds, it seemed amazingly easy to have older kids who don’t take off running when you turn the camera their way 🙂 )
