Here are my Top Five Tips to have a successful Senior Portrait Session at the University of Texas campus:
- Try and pick a weeknight for your session date. Some popular spots (like the Architecture Library doors) get long lines this time of year for photos
- Shake your champagne really well before opening it (and bring an extra bottle just in case)
- Pack a towel for post-champagne and post-fountain dips (and leave the dip in the Littlefield Fountain for your last shot of the night)
- Bring an extra pair of comfortable shoes for walking between spots
- Make sure you have your all your graduation regalia pressed and ready to go (cap, gown, tassel, etc.)
This graduate had scouted out all the spots she wanted for her session. It made it so easy to go from place to place to make sure we got all the locations she wanted. Please enjoy some of my favorite pictures from her Senior portrait session below.

Three things to remember if you’re shooting at the Long Center in Austin, Texas.
- Check their Event calendar first
- Realize their parking garage may be closed if there are not any events
- You will usually see lots of other photos shoots happening at the same time (so far this season I’ve seen Prom photos, roller skating and dance videos also using this location).

This Class of 2021 McCallum Senior enjoys rock climbing, so Gus Fruh was a natural pick for his location. I’d never been to this part of the Greenbelt before, but it was mostly empty early on a Sunday morning.

Do you know the history of the red poppies in Georgetown?
“A young soldier sent home seeds from Flanders’ Fields during WWI and the Red Poppies began to grow wild across Georgetown for many years. Although the flowers no longer grow wild as they once did, the citizens of Georgetown have worked diligently to preserve the City’s history and beauty by cultivating these wonderful Red Poppy flowers in locations across town.”
So when this family requested flowers for their photo session and the bluebonnets were done for the season in Austin – we headed North to Georgetown instead. The poppy-filled Sunken Gardens in San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Texas made a great Spring back-drop.

Once you’ve booked a photographer, figuring out what to wear and where to have your shoot are the next steps. For this session, it took some back and forth to decide on a location. Finally we choose The Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria. If you’re interested in using that location yourself – you can read the guidelines and how to book.
With interesting sculptures and access to the inside of the Driscoll Villa, there’s a variety of backgrounds to explore.
