Top 10 Rooftops, Bridges and Parking Lots – Location Scouting
Do you have a favorite skyline view in Austin, Texas? If not, let me share some of mine. These top 10 spots would work for any type of portrait session where you want an urban feel, downtown views and lots of architectural lines to play with. So, come take a tour of my favorite rooftops, bridges and parking lots which give great modern backgrounds.

- Long Center Performing Arts Garage

2. Tau Ceti Parking Garage

3. Butterfly Bridge

4. Chase Tower Garage

5. Contemporary Arts – Jones Center ($100 location fee – only accessible during museum hours)

It’s a steep climb up – and please avoid if you get vertigo – but those views from above the bridge are just iconic.
You can also park below and have the bridge above – a spot to keep an eye out for spring wildflowers as well.
8. Pedestrian Bridge

9. Skybridge at Waterloo Park

You can use the 2nd floor Children’s Library screened-in porch or the rooftop garden.

Now Booking Spring Portrait Sessions
Click on the calendar below to book your Spring Portrait Session this March, April or May 2022 in Austin, TX.
A $50 deposit is required to hold your spot. The remainder of the fee is due at your session (package information here).
Trying to decide on the best time for your portrait session…
- …and you want bluebonnets – last week of March/first week of April are usually the best bets – but I’ll be keeping a close eye on the available fields and giving you updates if we need to move up or move back a session date.
- …and you want wildflowers in general – end of March through beginning of May should be fine.
- …and you want to be indoors – there are several studios we can rent for a location fee
- …and you want a road trip – we can visit the Barton Hills Farm Spring Festival (opens April 17th) or Sweet Berry Farms (Tulips in early March) in Marble Falls– or Arnosky Family Farms in Blanco – check their site for season dates (*additional travel fee will apply)
- …and you want an urban background – check out my latest post on rooftops, parking garages and bridges
- …and you don’t require flowers – any of the available dates on the calendar will do. Let me know if you’d prefer an urban setting or a natural setting. And if you have any locations in mind or want suggestions, just reach out.

Tau Ceti, Austin Rooftop views and the Fareground Courtyard – High School Portrait Session
If you’re a High School student looking for a fun spot for your portrait session – this area of town has lots of options. We can start at the Tau Ceti mural (Austin’s tallest mural at 103 feet) on 2nd and Brazos St. Next stop is taking the elevator to the top floor of that parking garage. After that, we can walk over to the Fareground and take some photos in their courtyard. Then you get a mixture of urban and nature with plenty of backgrounds to choose from.

Rooftop Austin – High School Portrait Session
If you’re a portrait photographer in Austin, Texas, you may just have a favorite parking garage. Mine used to the Long Center one – great colors and skyline views. But now, I think it’s a tie. Because if you go to the top floor of the Tau Ceti mural parking garage, you have different fantastic views and a variety of backgrounds for photos.
Clearly, I need to investigate other great rooftop options in our city. I love having a mixture of locations to suggest for high school students. And it’s always a bonus when you bring your best friend along for your photo session. And if you don’t mind changing your outfits in stairwells, your gallery will have even more variation.
