Senior Photos at Pease Park in Austin — A Complete Location Guide
String lights, live oaks, a treehouse pod, and a creek running through it all. Here’s what to expect at one of Central Austin’s most photogenic parks.
When this Anderson High School senior requested Pease Park for her session, I was excited. I always am when someone picks this park. It has more variety packed into one location than almost anywhere else in Austin — a wide open meadow flanked by massive live oaks, a Tudor cottage with string lights strung across the courtyard, a metal treehouse observation pod, and Shoal Creek winding through the middle of it. You can get five completely different looks without moving your car.

We started at the Live Oak Meadow (where it’s easier to find parking) and worked our way south through the park, ending at the Kingsbury Commons cottage as the light dropped and the string lights came on. The timing was perfect.
If you’re a senior considering Pease Park for your own session — or a mom trying to figure out whether it’s the right fit — here’s everything you need to know before you book.
Where Pease Park Is and How to Get There
Pease Park runs along Lamar Blvd in Central Austin from 15th Street to 31st Street. The main entrance is at Kingsbury Commons at 1100 Kingsbury St, which puts you right in the heart of the park and within easy walking distance of all the main photo spots.
What to Expect During Your Session
Pease Park is laid out in a natural north-to-south flow that works really well for senior sessions. Here’s how I typically run them:
We usually start at the Live Oak Meadow — the wide grassy clearing bordered by some of the most dramatic live oak trees in Austin. The canopy here is incredible, especially in the late afternoon when the light filters through the branches. This is the spot for big, open portraits with room to breathe.
From there we work south through the park, hitting Shoal Creek if water levels are good (they vary seasonally, so we check ahead of time), and finishing at the Tudor Cottage at Kingsbury Commons. The cottage has a courtyard with string lights overhead that look magical at golden hour. It photographs completely differently than the meadow — more intimate, more architectural, more editorial. The contrast between the two settings means your final gallery has real range.

The Treehouse Observation Pod is also worth working into the session — it’s a metal structure that reads as interesting and unexpected in photos, and it gives you a different vantage point and texture from the natural elements in the rest of the park.

If you’d also like to have a Senior photo session at Pease Park, here are my tips below:
- PARKING:Â There is a small parking lot at 1100 Kingsbury St with 18 spots. There is limited parking available on Parkway, south of Kingsbury, that is free during the week and pay-to-park on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Live Oak Meadow also has a small parking lot and street parking along Parkway, North of Kingsbury. More details HERE. I usually recommend parking near the Live Oak Meadow.
- OPERATING HOURS:Â The park is open from 5am-10pm daily.
- LOCATIONS:Â Main features include the Live Oak Meadow, the Tudor Cottage (with string lights across the courtyard), and the metal Treehouse Observation Pod. Shoal Creek also runs through the park (water levels vary throughout the year).
- WARDROBE:Â We’ll be doing some walking from one of the park to another, so wear (or bring) comfortable shoes. You might even want cowboy boots if the grass is tall.
- SCHEDULE:Â Check their Events page before you book.
- FOOD / RESTROOMS: There are currently three food trucks on site – Tex-Mex, Coffee and Snowcones. There is also a restroom near the Treehouse.Â
- NEARBY RESTAURANTS:
If you want to go out to eat after your senior photo session, some favorites within a short drive include:
- Galaxy Cafe — very family-friendly, great comfort food
- Jeffrey’s — upscale, perfect for a celebratory dinner
- Cipollina — cozy Italian bistro
- DOG-FRIENDLY:Â Yes, this park is definitely dog-friendly.
- WHAT TO BRING: It’s optional, but some prop ideas are listed HERE for Seniors.Â
Is Pease Park Right for Your Senior Session?
Pease Park works best for seniors who want variety without driving between multiple locations. If you love the idea of a big open meadow shot AND something more intimate and architectural in the same session, this park delivers both. It also photographs beautifully year-round, though spring and fall tend to offer the best light and the most lush greenery.
If you’re an Austin senior in Central Austin and you want something that gives you both natural and architectural backdrops, Pease Park is one of my favorite recommendations.
